Does Induced Abortion Contribute to Breast Cancer Risk?

A possible causal relationship between induced abortion and subsequent breast cancer has been a matter of concern since the recognition of endocrine risk factors for this malignancy. It has been much easier to confirm the protective effect of pregnancy and young age at first full pregnancy, while nulliparity and/or late age at first pregnancy has been accepted unequivocally to increase the lifetime risk of breast cancer. There is extensive published evidence supporting pro and contra views on the effect of abortion.
