Proper Diagnosis of Melanoma in Situ

Early and accurate diagnosis of malignant melanoma is essential in order to ensure proper treatment. Melanoma in situ that is confined at the site of origin is potentially curable by surgery if diagnosed correctly. Immunohistochemical technique that identifies specific a protein marker on melanocyte can distinguish the invasive cancer cells not detected by the histologic staining.
