Zolendronate: A Recently Introduced Biphosphonate in Cancer Therapy

Biphosphonates have been cautiously applied as calcium-sparing, cartilage protecting agents ? a secondary, adjuvant effort in cancer treatment. Since hypercalcemia is a frequent and unpopular complication in the evolution of many malignant growths, efficient agents that would control this unwanted metabolic derailment are in demand. Pamidronate is one of the tools available and more recently, zolendronate (Zometa®) has been studied and evaluated.
