CW June 2001Issue Number 6 June 2001 ISSN 10593802 A Better Way to Select Breast Cancer Patients for Herceptin TherapyA retrospective analysis of the pivotal trial of trastuzumab (Herceptin®, Genentech) in combination with chemotherapy for the first-line treatment of women with metastatic breast cancer demonstrated that the use of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is the preferred alternative to the standard immunohistochemistry (IHC) assay for identifying patients most likely to benefit from therapy with Herceptin and chemotherapy, according to a study presented at the 2001 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in San Francisco, California.
