Nicotine Stimulates Angiogenesis and Promotes Tumor Growth

Nicotine is found to enhance angiogenesis under various pathological conditions. Angiogenesis may be beneficial or detrimental to the patient depending upon the ailment. Currently, nicotine is used as a therapeutic agent for smoking cessation and is under clinical trial for the treatment of other pathological condition. Caution should be taken in long-term use of nicotine as a therapeutic agent.
