CW July 2001Issue Number 7 July 2001 ISSN 10593802 A Step Forward in the Radioimmunotherapy of TumorsBack in July 2000, CW reviewed the underestimated role of radio- immunoscintigraphy in cancer. At last, there is some badly needed progress to report, if only in animal studies, but with an optimistic outlook: a substantial step from diagnostics to therapy is becoming reality. Advances in antibody engineering resulted in the availability of a wide range of novel constructs, able to home in on specific targets and to serve as vehicles to a variety of isotopes. As it stands, experimental results appear to deliver on the promises.
