Tools for Proteomics Research

After genomics, everybody is interested in proteomics, a ?new? term for the process of identifying and understanding the function of proteins encoded by the human genome. This is, after the highly automated and mechanized mapping of the genome, a challenging task, but unavoidable. There is little merit in knowing the DNA sequence of any one gene without knowing what the proteins encoded do or prevent. To cross this crucial bridge, entirely new and refined tools and technologies must be developed; some are already on the market; the trend is to increase sensitivity, throughput and finally automation, together with computerized data analysis and interpretation.
