New Pathways to Targeted Treatments

Leading experts in cancer and molecular oncology are exploring ways in which new molecular pathways are leading the field of clinical oncology. The practical applications of molecular oncology have resulted in a paradigm shift toward genetically targeted treatments. These include the so-called ?poster boy? of targeted therapy, imatinib, now used for both chronic myelogenous leukemia and gastrointestinal stromal tumors, as well as all-trans retinoic acid and arsenic for acute promyelocytic leukemia.
