The practical applications of molecular oncology have resulted in a paradigm shift toward genetically targeted treatments. These include the so-called ?poster boy? of targeted therapy, imatinib, now used for both chronic myelogenous leukemia and gastrointestinal stromal tumors, as well as all-trans retinoic acid and arsenic for acute promyelocytic leukemia.
