New CML

New studies report outstanding response rates to imatinib as a treatment for newly diagnosed chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) patients. Key discussions centered around cytogenetic response as the long-term goal of treatment for CML, with the suggestion made that newly diagnosed, early chronic phase patients should try imatinib therapy before a stem cell transplantation.
