Treatment with drotrecogin alfa (activated), compared to placebo, results in a more rapid resolution of cardiovascular and pulmonary organ dysfunction which was reflected in lower overall mortality and fewer deaths from cardiovascular and pulmonary organ failure, according to Peter Morris, Baptist Medical Center, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC, speaking at the 31st Critical Care Congress of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, held in San Diego, California on January 26-30, 2002.
