Amplification of Oncogenes

Amplification is considered as the major molecular pathway that enhances gene expression beyond and above physiological levels. Regulatory or structural alterations in oncogenes are at the root of cancerogenesis ? at least for now. Once critical genes have been altered and/or amplified, there is a continuous generation of genetic variants with proliferative and invasive potential leading to the eventual development of truly neoplastic cells.
