CW December 2001Issue Number 12 December 2001 ISSN 10593802 Is Tamoxifen Genotoxic?Tamoxifen is now the world?s most widely used single chemotherapeutic agent, in extensive trials, both in women after breast cancer surgery or healthy, for prolonged periods of time. Any drug, used in such large numbers of patients for months and years on a regular basis, will necessarily have side effects in some individuals. It is still a judgment call whether the benefits outweigh the risks, especially if the risk is carcinogenicity. Voices in favor have always outnumbered those against the drug; it is time to try for a review of the state of the art.
