Pregnancy Hormones Induce Sustained Production of Tumor Suppressor Protein p53

Full-term pregnancy early in life is found to confer protection against breast cancer in human. In animal studies chemically-induced mammary tumor formation is prevented by injection of pregnancy hormones estrogen and progesterone. This pregnancy hormone-induced resistance to develop breast cancer is thought to be mediated via p53 gene products.
