The Oncoprotein Jun: A Brief Review

A testimony to the ongoing interest in oncogenes and their products is the fact that a highly specialized and voluminous journal (Oncogene) has reached its 20th volume and is still going strong. As yet, the recent cataloguing of the human genome has brought few if any surprises and we like to believe that the great majority of genes involved in accelerating or inhibiting apoptosis is already known. Their mechanisms of action and their interplay remains little understood; occasional reviews should facilitate sorting out some of this open ends. Since the Jun proteins can induce oncogenic transformation, a very succinct and general evaluation should be timely.
